U.S. FCC Adds Advanced Robots & Grid-Scale Inverters to Covered List, Freezing New Chinese Imports
On 29 July 2026 the Federal Communications Commission formally black-listed foreign-made “advanced robotic devices” (humanoids, quadrupeds and other mobile robots) and connected power inverters, immediately blocking any new FCC equipment authorizations and therefore halting fresh imports into the United States.
Focusing Facts
- Designation on 29 Jul 2026 places both product classes on the FCC Covered List, which by statute bars new U.S. sales/installs unless a Pentagon-DHS waiver is granted.
- Existing robots and inverters already certified may stay in use and on store shelves; the ban only applies to models seeking authorization after the cut-off date.
- China currently supplies roughly 85 % of global humanoid robots and 70 % of quadruped units (MIIT data, H1 2026).
