Houthis Seize Perim Island, Tightening Grip on Bab el-Mandeb Strait

In a 36-hour blitz ending 11 Sept 2026, Houthi forces captured Mokha, Dhubab and Perim (Mayun) Island, giving them forward launch sites astride the 18-mile-wide Bab el-Mandeb and the entire Yemeni Red Sea coast for the first time since the war began in 2014.
